Hello Zazzle Goods by Gasara Hello Zazzle Goods by Gasara
As mentioned earlier, I've been testing out some potential goods from Zazzle and deviantART. This bundle is mostly from the former and includes a poster, mugs, badges and a magnet. Let me review these a little for those of you who may wish to purchase from Zazzle at some point or, indeed, set up your own Zazzle shop.

The images on the mugs are printed all the way around but do have a small border top and bottom. It's pretty unobtrusive but I would prefer it without. The Pixel Avengers mug, in my opinion, works best because of it being on a white background and so it works pretty seamlessly with the way they are printed. The mugs themselves are of a decent size and feel sturdy and, for some reason, coffee tastes wonderful in them - especially when accompanied by Pop-Tarts and an issue of Matt Fraction's Hawkeye

There's not much to say about the badges but the print on the magnet (the square one) could perhaps be a bit sharper. The smaller badges work better with a close up image but the larger ones can handle a more detailed picture. They are what they are though and for a pound or so they're pretty nice.

Zazzle's service is pretty good though I did have to order a reprint of the sketch mug. The image had printed wonky, a little blurry and had two black marks across the lip of the mug. I e-mailed their customer service team a couple of photos that showed the faults and they organised a replacement that was here in days and that had printed perfectly. So, good times.

Now, the third mug from the top (feat. The Asgard Plains) was from deviantART. There's more of a border on the dA mugs so the image really looks like a little strip across the middle. It also wasn't centered with there being a wide space between the left of the image and the handle. I set up the image correctly when submitting it as a print so I guess this is just how dA mugs come out. Has anyone else bought a full-wrap mug from dA with this issue? I think that quotes or logos would work wonderfully with these but I'm not convinced about a full image with the weird gap. The print quality's nice and bright though, so that's good. If you are designing your own mug you might want to... mind the gap, as it were.

So, in summary, both Zazzle and deviantART provide nicely printed items. Both of them have a nice selection of goods and print types to print on. Both services seem to work really well, with any problems being resolved promptly and with no real effort on my part. Would I recommend them? Yes. For both buyers and artists alike. So set up your prints now, or dive into the shops and treat yourselves to something. You won't be sorry you did.

And that concludes my merchandise reviews for now. I hope you've found it a little helpful. If not, let me know what you want to know about these print services or goods and I'll let you know.

Oh, my Zazzle shop, for those of you who might be interested, will be open at the beginning of next year

Apologies for the terrible photo again... I fail at cameras. But, look, snazzy filter!

Cool you have a Zazzle and deviantAR account!

Here's a question can I have the same design on both deviantART and Zazzle, or would that be a issues with Zazzles Copyright?

Hey Gasara! Thanks for this, it was SUPER handy! I've been meaning to set up my own shop for my t-shirt designs, but there are so many options to think about it scares me :nuu: LOL

But I was wondering - and this may seem like a greedy and superficial question, but important nonetheless - how does the payment/royalties for the artist work on Zazzle? A couple of other sites I've looked at pay by commission (e.g. you have to sell at least 30 t-shirts a month to get paid) which frankly, as a beginner, I don't have a chance in hell of achieving. I haven't got a part time job (and that's not from lack of trying I assure you!!) so this would be my only source of income, so I need to know I won't be dupped on money.

Thanks again!

omg your merchandise looks so cute :D I was wondering did you make coasters? And if so how many did you print and how much did it cost? Also would you recommend getting coasters at zazzle and how did the coasters turn out?
The print looks really nice! How big is the print? And does it come on glossy paper or ? :O I want to find a place to print my stuff in the future but I am trying to find the best place to print it

That was very helpful, and I have to say that the items do look quite nice. I intend to sell merchandise of my original work at some point, so it's good to see how the experience has been for other artists.

Actually these reviews are really useful as I was thinking to work towards setting up my shop next year but I don't really have money to test the goods so a big thank you for doing it XD
I saw that DA has puzzles as well so I was wondering if you had them as well (and how they were). The mugs look quite nice, but maybe Zazzle ones are better.
Overall thank you again for doing these reviews XD
Gasara Featured By Owner Dec 16, 2012
Haha, you're welcome. Yeah, the cost of testing them can be an issue. Zazzle and dA both have really good offers occassionaly though (free shipping, 30% off, etc.) and that's when I tend to buy my things. You just have to keep an eye out for them. :D

The puzzle from dA is really nice. The print quality is great and it comes in a sturdy box with the image printed on the top, which is a plus. I would love to have loads of these, actually ♥

I would persoally choose Zazzle over dA for mugs. There's a bigger printing area and you can control exactly how and where your image will print. dA does have black mugs though and I'd really like to try one of those... *so torn*

No problem, m'dear! It seems difficult to get any real info on these products so if it's helped someone out then I'm happy. ^^
Good luck with your shop!

Thanks for the extra info; Zazzle's option allowing to choose where to print the image makes me shift even more towards it.
Maybe I should open 2 shops and that's it LOL I'll see...

I used to have a black mug (not from DA, just a normal mug) but apparently it's dangerous to drink hot stuff due to the quality of the color/ink/paint, if it's poor quality it's really unhealthy. I use it for pencils storage now ahah.

Yeah, I also read your post about the quality of DA printing papers and it was really informative. Many thanks for sharing the info, it was what made me wanna try opening a shop in the future (never really paid attention to DA shop tbh ^^')
Thank you, hope I'll manage XD

I bought a mug from DA last year and it took way longer to get here than it should have. Plus the image was blurry and had this weird pixelated texture on it. I am glad yours turned out nice though! I personally won't be buying any more mugs from DA. the prints are pretty nice though (they do get cropped weird sometimes, especially with awkward image dimension.)
