To the Soul Trinity

Please allow me to introduce you to Raenes (left) and Iria (right), Elonis' loyal friends and guards.

Raenes, Iria and Elonis grew up together, with Iria being Elonis' only cousin and Raenes the son of her father's business partner.

Raenes joined the military so he could earn a place as a royal guard to protect Elonis when she became queen. Iria was a little more reluctant to give up his studies but eventually followed his friend into the army. When Elonis became queen, Raenes was awarded the position of General of the Owrystian army and head of the Royal Guard. Iria acts as Lieutenant but was only given the lesser title of Sergeant on account of his being born in Landenyn rather than Owrystia.

Raenes is an intelligent leader and consummate swordsman though he is also well know for his less than clever antics. He once gambled for the freedom of several captured pirates in a game of cards only to lose and be forced to set them all free. Iria will not let him live this down.

Iria follows his friend with a good natured air of reluctance. He makes out that Raenes' escapades frustrate him but really he finds it amusing. Because of his rather formal upbringing he can be too polite sometimes. He always calls Elonis 'Your Majesty', which she scolds him for. "Honestly, cousin, anyone would think we were strangers."

Raenes and Masa have an odd relationship. While Masa is a constant source of frustration to the General, it seems as though they could be great friends if they weren't on the opposite side of the law. If only Masa wasn't always stealing from or embarrassing the queen...

You can probably tell from how much I've written that I really like these characters. I love the idea that in private the stoic queen and her two distinguished guards turn into childish, playful idiots. Also, Iria's done well for himself. Raenes originally didn't have a second-in-command but it didn't make much sense that way so just threw in a nameless, designless character. Then I actually drew Iria, gave him a name and fell in love with him. He's ended up with a pretty major role now.

Ah, I could write about these three forever~
