Guys, Flash is awesome.
The Flash gallery here on deviantART needs some love.
Flash pieces can receive quite a few comments, and perhaps quite a lot of love, from people who play the games or watch the animations but very few seem to ever get featured or promoted. There's no Flash Community Volunteer at the moment so Daily Deviations from this gallery are few and far between, which is a crying shame. There's some absolutely amazing talent out there working, or even just dabbling, with Flash and it seems a shame that their work may not get the community-wide attention it deserves.
The attitude towards certain Flash pieces can be a little dismissive, even within the Flash community itself. Dress up games, I've noticed, tend to be seen as just dress up games, as though they are somehow inferior, as though the hundreds of pieces of art work and days of programming that can go into making one are irrelevent.
My Avengers Helicarrier Playset was declined from a Flash Game group here on dA because it is essentially a dress up game. So, all the character art, the comics, the unlockables, the interactive programming, the love and affection that went into making that didn't count for anything because you couldn't shoot at anything or make the characters walk? Nice. And, unfortunately, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have encountered this kind of thing.
Not that it's all gloom and doom, of course. There have been some wonderful pieces awarded with DDs and there are some amazing artists out there doing what they can to promote Flash and its versatility. Look up Flash tutorials on dA and you'll find some amazing guides that make working with Flash manageable if not easy. Who knows, you might also find yourself tempted to have a little go yourself.
If you've never really delved into the gallery before, allow me to give you a little push to do so with a selection of some of my favourite Flash pieces below. The following features include RPGs, dress up games, animations, point-and-click games, playsets and more.
And one of my own. Just because XD

I don't consider myself qualified enough to apply for the position of Flash Community Volunteer but if anyone out there has been thinking about it, why not give it a go? You'd be doing that gallery a wonderful service. You'll have my unending support too ♥
In the meantime I'll keep suggesting DDs to whomever I can and hopefully bring a little more attention to this wonderful form of art.
Hopefully I'll have made a little start here.

This year, one of my modules has us learning external ActionScript - blank canvas with everything pulled in via ActionScript. Anyone that does that has even more work cut out for them!
I know how much work can go into a flash creation and to reject one from a group because it's "it is essentially a dress up game"... Even if it's not the best thing in the world, the creator will have put a lot of work in it and that deserves to be repected.
thankyou so much for featuring my game and i share your views about flash games!
Ah, you're welcome. It was a pleasure to gather all of these wonderful things together to share.
I'm not all the way through them all but each of them are wonderful and absolutely enjoyable
