EDIT: Feel free to keep sending your submissions in. I'll be taking them right up until just before printing, around the middle of March. The book will be available to order shortly after that. Thank you!
The first project from my Resolutions list that I'm focussing on completing is the Gasarasrevolution sketchbook. It will be an A5 book filled with illustrations, drawings, sketches, doodles, manga pages, lineart, tutorials - all the random that you said you'd like to see. And I'm holding you to the declarations from some of you that you wanted to see 'all things Gasara', okay? Some of the old doodles I've found... They make me laugh, that's all I'm saying. It should be fun.
Anyway, I'm bringing this up because I realised that some of you wonderful people might like to get involved too. I've had a vast number of fan art drawn from To the Soul and In Fang + Thief / Boys Over Faeries over the years and thought it would be nice to share something like that in the book too. So if you'd like to draw something based on my characters I'd be happy to see about its inclusion in the book. Unfortunately, I can't give you anything in return for it and I can't promise every piece will go in (depending on the number of pages I can set aside for that section) but if you'd like to draw something then that would be lovely. If there's not that many submissions then I might be able to stretch to a small token of my appreciation.
If you're interested please make sure to take note of the following image requirements:
Min size: 5.83 x 8.26 in (no bleed) / 6.08 x 8.51 in (full bleed)
Min resolution: 300 DPI
Your image can be in colour or black and white. You can draw anything you like as long as it's relating to 'Gasara'-ness, such as my characters or something you've been inspired by from my gallery.
Credit will be given to you with a link to your dA or website of your choice.Deadline: March 21st 2013
FAQDoes the picture have to be anime/manga styled?
Not at all. I'd like for this to be an opportunity to showcase other people's art as well as my own, whatever style or theme you might typically use. Just draw however you usually draw.Does the picture have to be digitally drawn?
No, traditional artwork is absolutely fine too. Just make sure you scan it at 300DPI to ensure that it will print clearly and cleanly in the book. Are pieces being jugded on skill for inclusion in the book?
Not necessarily, no. I would, however, encourage participants to create something that they would be proud of being published. Their art will be advertised in this book so that's all that I ask that they bear in mind, for their benefit rather than mine. I would like to see that effort has gone into the piece, that's all.So we have to draw your characters?
You don't have
to but your image must be relevant to the theme of the book which, in this case, is 'Gasara'. You can pull inspiration from styles or themes in my gallery if you like as long as there is some sort of obvious connection. Drawing my characters is perhaps the easiest way to accomplish this. Can I submit a sketch or does it have to be a full illustration?
You can submit either. Full illustrations will be printed on individual full pages whereas sketches and doodles will be compiled together. What do you mean by bleed size?
The 'bleed' allows for full page images to print without borders. If you want your image to stretch all the way to the edges of the page then use the bleed size. A very tiny portion of the page will be trimmed from the edge and this will ensure that the image completely fills the page. If you plan on having a border or white space around the edge of the page then you can just use the no bleed size.An extra little note...
I would like to print art from you guys because my wonderful watchers are as much a part of Gasarasrevolution as I am. Your eagerness for my comics and affection for my characters is truly heartwarming and I want to repay your for that with this small opportunity. If you are going to submit a piece of artwork I would really prefer that it is because you want
to draw my characters and because you have an interest in the artbook, not just because there's the chance to get artwork printed. Please, please don't try to take advantage of this opportunity that way. Please take part because you are perhaps excited by the world I've created and want to be able to take part in that. Thank you.
If you do decide to draw something, upload your image (Sta.sh is a good choice for this), send me a note with a link and we'll go from there.
In the meantime I'll be working on page layouts and going through all those dusty old boxes of sketches I have hidden around my room. Good times!
Thanks, guys. ♥
